Wisdom Tooth Extraction
An impacted wisdom tooth occurs when the wisdom teeth are unable to erupt into the mouth. Generally this is caused by other teeth, or when the tooth does not erupt in a vertical position.
The most common treatment for an impacted wisdom tooth is wisdom tooth extraction. The process can be simple or surgical depending on the impact and angle of the tooth. Wisdom tooth extractions can be done under local anesthetic, general anesthetic, or sedation.
Why Remove Them?
While they may be the last premanent teeth to erupt, they can be one of the most problematic. If the teeth do not have enough space or room to properly develop, they may develop into impacted wisdom teeth.
The Oral Problems
Aside from general pain, there are plenty of other reasons why you’d want your impacted tooth pulled. It can trap food and debris behind the teeth, cause infection or gum disease, or develop into cysts around the teeth.
